Being bold

Colour. It’s the heartbeat of everything I make. The spark. The invitation. The yes. It’s not just a design choice, it’s a mood. A statement. A rebellion, sometimes.

When I started Capulet & Montague, I didn’t think, “I’ll be known for colourful jewellery.” I just made what felt good. What looked alive. I reached for colours that made me feel something. Not just pretty colours. But powerful ones. Surprising ones. Sometimes even “clashing” ones (whatever that means anymore). It was instinct first, logic second.

I’ve always believed that colour has a kind of electricity. It carries memory, emotion, intention. You see a deep mustard yellow, and suddenly you’re six years old again, eating crisps on a sunny step. Or a cobalt blue that makes you feel unexpectedly bold, like you could walk into any room and own it.

So much of the jewellery world can feel safe. Understated. Whispered. That’s fine b ut it’s not me. I want louder. I want laughter. I want the kind of colour that makes you smile when you catch yourself in the mirror. I want people to say, “Where did you get that?” and mean it.

Working with Perspex and acrylic is a dream when you’re colour-obsessed. The shades are so saturated, so juicy. They catch the light like stained glass for your ears. I layer and laser-cut and stack until the combinations feel like music. Coral and lavender. Turquoise and red. Pistachio and rose. Some of them shouldn’t work, but they do, because they’re confident. And confidence is magnetic.

But here’s the thing: being bold with colour isn’t about being loud all the time. It’s about intention. Sometimes a single pop of colour, just a zing of neon orange against charcoal is enough to say, “I’m here.” Other times, it’s all-out chaos and contrast, and that’s beautiful too. It’s about trusting your instincts and letting colour say what words can’t.

And trust me, I know it can feel scary to wear something bold. We’ve been trained to tone it down. Be neutral. Be appropriate. But when you start wearing colour that makes you feel like you truly, wildly, you ... you won’t want to go back. It becomes your signature. A little piece of your personality made visible.

So I make jewellery for the colour-curious. The colour-courageous. The people who don’t want to blend in. The people who want their accessories to tell a story, start a conversation, or simply bring them joy.

Here’s your permission slip, if you need one: Be brave. Be bold. Wear the colour.

Let it be playful. Let it be powerful. Let it remind you that life is too short for beige.
